Storm coming? Be prepared! 5 tips to help you get ready.
Storm season is quickly approaching and can have devastating effects on your home and personal property. Here at Whitford Insurance Network we love hearing from our clients, but we never enjoy the stories that can follow a particularly ugly storm. Here's a few easy tips and tricks to stay ahead of the weather & keep your family happy, dry & loss free!
  1. Although it's tough to admit, BBQ season is coming to a close & one of the most common cause of loss during high winds is flying deck furniture. Remove or tie down any objects on your deck or patio to prevent damage to siding or windows. Don't forget those flower pots!
  2. That landscaping sure is beautiful, but have you trimmed any branches of trees or shrubs that could blow off? Decorative rocks & gravel in flowerbeds can also cause problems in high winds.
  3. Maintenance is always less expensive: have someone come look at your roof to make sure there are no needed repairs to shingles or gables. Also remember, during storms your roof not only has to keep water out but must be strong enough to stay ON!
  4. For DIY lovers: take a look around your house & make sure all the flushing on doors & windows is functional. Make sure your door & bolts are strong enough to withstand high winds; an unsecured door can lead to major damage.
  5. Don't let a leak turn into a deluge: Ensure that your family knows where & how to turn off the homes utilities in the event of an emergency
